What is the significance of LEEP results?
Your LEEP results can reveal if you have normal/pre-cancerous or cancerous cells. This will be the final test. My gynecologist explained that the tissue taken from my cervix will be divided into 10 slides and examined individually by a pathologist to detect any cancerous cells, as I mentioned before.
The LEEP procedure is a very effective way to remove any abnormal or precancerous cells. However, it is possible that abnormal cells will come back again. I decided to delve into studying the women's reproductive system to discover its intricacies and the potential dangers of invasive cancer.
I've learned that cervical cancer commonly spreads to the lymph nodes, liver, lungs, and bones. If the first LEEP doesn't yield desired results, the gynecologist might propose another LEEP or a cold knife cone procedure. Conization and LEEP are procedures that remove abnormal tissue from the cervix. Abnormal tissue is removed using a small wire loop that is electrically charged in LEEP. Surgeons use a surgical knife to remove a larger, cone-shaped section of abnormal tissue from your cervix during a cone biopsy.
I've gained a thorough understanding of the female reproductive system, which was previously unfamiliar to me. This knowledge will enable me to make informed decisions.
A major surgery called a hysterectomy should not be the primary choice for treating abnormal cell growths. In cases of advanced cervical dysplasia, a hysterectomy may be advised by your provider if other treatments have not been successful in preventing the recurrence of abnormal cells. Have a conversation with your provider about the options that best suit your unique circumstances.
Every woman has a unique perspective on this matter. Some have finished having kids, some haven't started, and some are not ready to stop yet. Although I don't need a hysterectomy right now, my journey feels unpredictable because I lack control over my life. As far as I know, I'm uncertain if I'll ever need one because I'm still waiting on my LEEP result.
Consequently, I make an effort to mentally brace myself for the worst possible outcome.
