LEEP - Loop Electrosurgical Excision Procedure

The purpose of LEEP is to:

Help gynecologists work towards identifying the reason behind an abnormal smear result.

-Identify precancerous cells and cervical cancer in the cervix.

-Treat cervical precancerous conditions and carcinoma in situ in the cervix.

LEEP is a procedure where a heated wire loop is used by gynecologists to remove abnormal cells and tissue, serving as a diagnosis and treatment for cancerous or abnormal cells. According to the Cleveland clinic, the success rate for LEEP is 90%.

This was my Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP):

I arrived at the hospital at 7:30 am on September 27th, 2023. I had my pre-op six days before this, so they already checked my medication and other things. On the morning of the surgery, they checked my blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen levels. I went into the operating room at 9 am. Guess what?! This is totally off subject but I’ve been seeing the number 11 since my Nain passed away, 8 years ago, I even gave birth to my son 11:11am, a few months after she passed away. During my LEEP I was being operated on in the room 11, also number 1 on the list that day, how crazy is that!! Got to talk to the gynecologist before the procedure and he explained to me they were taking the top layer of the cervix, sending it to pathology , pathology will strip it into 10 slides and test each one. This made me feel a bit reassured.

After the Loop, I woke up and began crying in panic for my partner Colin. I think the panic of what I had just gone through made me urgently need his comfort! He is my sanctuary and has been my anchor throughout all of this. The nurses quickly brought me back to the ward where I could be with him. He went to the nearby shop to kill time and brought me a ham sandwich and a drink. I had half the sandwich, a few sips of the drink, gave a urine sample, and then left on my way home. I've never been a fan of hospitals. I inquired about speaking with the gynecologist post-surgery, but he was occupied with two major operations.
